Nigella Arrives and A Quilt is Finished

Last Thursday and new family member arrived…she is settling in beautifully and is quite the sassy lady!

Her name is Nigella and she responds to Gelly, Miss Gelly and Aren’t You Beautiful..

Nigella Arrives

She helped me finish this quilt…

Detail of Block in "English Villages" quilt by SalsySafrano

This quilt was built around two pieces of beautiful Liberty of London fabric from Christabel’s in Havelock North, and other fabrics from Kapiti Bernina and Susan Claire ( the Gourmet Quilter).

It is the first time I have been brave enough to add some free-motion quilting…well…so much to learn!!  I did however discover that I could use some of the embroidery stitch with the quilting foot on…so I was off in to waves and spirals to suit the fabric used.

So far I have had some lovely comments…so do leave one for me…

A Wet Day is Perfect for Quilting

Wet, Wet , wet today. I am pleased with progress on my new quilt.

A couple of months ago while visiting Havelock North and Christabel’s….I bought a couple of small pieces   ( 0.2m of each to be precise).  Over time a plan emerged in my head, and a further trip to visit the Gourmet Quilter, Susan-Claire, had me having a great time selecting “the support cast” for the main “characters”.

This last week has seen me progressing methodically, and today I have backed and batted and started to quilt the three layers.  Tomorrow I hope to be brave enough to start my most adventurous free motion quilting yet.  My mantra   ‘Of Course I can!”

On the cushion front, I happily sold a pink upcycled wool blanket cushion.  A lovely lady bought it for her grand-daughter in Australia.

So, if any of you readers would like to purchase one..let me know….

Photos coming soon…and an idea for a free gift has come to mind…just how to get it on screen is the next challenge.

Bye for now

Upcycled Wool Blankets Make Great Cushions

I am definately in a cushion phase…enjoy!

A Cavalcade of Cushions

Inspired I was over the Christmas break to upcycle a wool blanket and some fabric treasures to create a calvacade of cushions!

They have happily found their way into a lovely local shop and I am on to the next batch.  After all, Quilts and cushions do happily go together.

To find them…go to Lovely Living, Mahara Place, Shop 7,Waikanae, New Zealand….

sorry the colours here do not do them justice.

A Happy Calvacade of Cushions.
