Salsy Safrano Quilts

Well I have been to the first class for the year for me…”Glorious Colour” applique quilt by Kim McLean…it is entitlted “Vases, Birds,and Other Things”.

With help from Diana at Kapiti Coast Bernina I have completed one block and have another well underway.

Here is my stash of gorgeous fabric from which the quilt will be created.  Some of it is french cotton.. Souleiado…Les Traditionales…..and others collected from around the country as I love to visit fabric shops wherever I travel.

And following are the first two blocks under construction….

Fabric Stash for Applique Quilt ..part one

“MATERIAL OBSESSION” by Kathy Doughty and Sarah Fiekle (Foreword by Kaffe Fassett)

I took this book out from the library the other day…and it is so delicious….I don’t want to give it back!

These two lovely women have designed some quilts to share….

and encourage us to trust our instincts rather than following rigid, prescriptive rules that only stifle creativity.

Not that rules aren’t great of course for us to learn the basics…but WHEW!!…I have already been harbouring ideas of changes to the appliqué pattern in the quilt class I’ve just signed up for .

The book is full of lovely photos, patterns, instructions and templates.

We are guided by Easy, Intermediate and Advanced tags on each quilt.

I look forward to exploring with their guidelines.
