April Block Instructions for Simply Solids Quilting Bee

The April Block for the Simply Solids Quilting Bee,

Fallow Group,

is based on the following block

from the Gourmet Quilter.

It is called a Corners Block from 5" Squares.

I have used this block in my latest quilt "Unbridled Joy"  see photos two posts ago, and also on my flikr photostream.

Please watch the video here for your instructions.

I hope you like the block…it is great for scrappy quilts, and for the Simply Solids theme…here.

Each Fallow group member will be sent a pack of 9 central 5" squares, one of which is the slightly tawny one which will go in the centre

of the block.  The grey squares will be in the surrounding positions as in my photo.  The other colors will be used randomly to add the corners.

Easy!  My block measures approx 14" finished.  I have not opened my seams, so just do it your normal way.

I do hope it all comes together well.

If you are new to this Simply Solids Modern Bee…it has all been organised by the very busy Erin over at Sew at Home Mummy.

Simply Solids Modern Quilting Bee: my first block complete.

My first block

for the Simply Solids

Modern Quilting Bee is done.

This one has been organized

by Adrianne from On the Windy Side.

Here ’tis

I have heard back from Adrianne that it is OK! so that is a relief!

Since then I have been constructing some new blocks for myself

following one of the Gourmet Quilter’s new flurry of helpful videos on YouTube.

I have constructed a new block inspired by the Gourmet Quilter’s Corners Block from 5 inch Squares.

I have a feeling this may be a rebound from the Simply Solids theme…what do you think?

I am enjoying using lots of my favorite fabrics from my stash…some old and some new. The theme started with blues and greens but soon added oranges.

Only a very small amount of pink has been allowed to creep in. 🙂

Enjoy

Rocketing In To The New Year With A Table Runner And My First Bee Block.

My how the time races by

with a bit of work

gardening, swimming, paddock activity

and sewing of course.

One more look at the finished quilt "Summer Beach Holiday" from my last post.

Also I have made a wee table runner from a few pieces of the gorgeous Daisy Janie Organic Cotton "Tilly" range.

These I combined with some beautiful cotton checks..reverse side has Designer’s Guild fabric.

]

Also the Quilting Bee is underway and I am preparing my first Bee Block.

I am sure we will all find ourselves working with some unusual color combinations

as we work with other people’s selections.  It is nice to get outside of one’s own box sometimes!

I have actually posted off my first finished bee block to Adrianne at On The Windy Side.

I’ll show you the block once Adrianne has seen it first.

Meanwhile we are having out third day of summer rain here…

Enjoy
